Temple of Heaven NSLIY Day Out

We recently took a day trip out to the Temple of Heaven through the NSLIY program.

The Temple was constructed from 1406-1420 and is one of the most famous landmarks of China and Beijing.

Sports Day Competition

Recently BJ 80 had a sports competition and preformance! It was like a highly organized version of a track and field day meeting a homecoming parade. The entire event is also supposed to mimic the Olympics. It was a very big to do!

Each class learned how to march in time around the track. Each class also had different performances when they we'd done marching. Myself and four other students taught the international language department a dance which we had to perform when we reached the front of the stands. The teachers anti chose a sign to carry designed by one of our students to represent our department. It was a really fun day!

Temple Visit

While on break a friend and I visited a large Buddhist temple near the center city area. This temple is a Tibetan Lamasery that was founded in the 1700s to promote the religion and culture in Beijing. It is located in an older part of the city among some of the Hutongs.

Hutongs are narrow streets normally found in northern Chinese cities that join together traditional courtyard style housing units. Many resident's families have lived in these neighborhoods for generations. In an effort to preserve this part of Chinese culture the government has been designating some neighborhoods as protected areas.

Chinese Comic Con

Over break I've also had the opportunity to go to Comic Con Beijing with some of the international class. It was a super interesting day! Comic Con here is more anime with the Avengers and Batman in a little corner on the side. Lots of super amazing copay was everywhere though there were professional shoots as well as people just walking into the middle of an aisle and posing! I had a blast!
